The Wall
The Wall was a landmark, Pulitzer Prize–winning project led by Gannett Co., Inc. and spearheaded by The Arizona Republic. The series examined the real-world implications of constructing President Trump’s proposed border wall, translating a highly complex national issue into a deeply reported, accessible narrative.
As Team Lead for the print edition, I directed the visual execution across a multi-part rollout that spanned 10 consecutive days of coverage, including two special sections. Working closely with editors, reporters, and designers, I developed a cohesive system that balanced clarity, depth, and visual impact at scale, ensuring consistency across a large volume of content under tight production timelines.
The project took nearly a year from initial reporting to publication and became one of the most high-profile editorial efforts across Gannett. The Wall was awarded the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting, the Scripps Howard Award for Innovation, and the Society for News Design Award of Excellence.
